I received my master in social work from UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs. I've been trained in Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical, Psychodynamic, Narrative, Feminist and Psychoanalytic modalities, and I use Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and mindfulness approaches to change.
Prior to working in private practice, I was a medical social worker with the Los Angeles LGBT Center using clinical case management to assist clients experiencing HIV-related health issues and barriers to resources and wellness; additionally I was a forensic social worker and staff psychotherapist at Project 180 on Skid Row, where I worked with the formerly incarcerated and severely and persistently mentally ill populations whose interactions with the legal system led to jail or prison.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist and clinical social worker, I was an actor in the theater in New York.
My practice serves the greater Los Angeles area including Echo Park, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Atwater and the surrounding areas including Eagle Rock, Glassell Park, Mt. Washington, Downtown LA, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Burbank, Studio City.
Areas of focus include depression, anxiety, stress, self-esteem, mental health, grief, loss, medical issues, addiction, trauma, work issues, and men's issues. Ray Cochran is LGBT-affirmative as well as working extensively with LGBTQQI communities and populations. I am also an EMDR-trained practitioner.
